About the Owner

Mike Sands is one of Alberta’s most in-demand session guitarists, performing over 130 shows each year with multiple artists and frequently recording in-studio—leaving his signature sound permanently on the airwaves. When you study with Mike, you’re not only learning from a pro, but from a working musician with real-world experience.

Mike brings over 20 years of teaching experience and has earned a reputation as one of the top instructors in Okotoks. Well-versed in a wide range of genres and styles, he tailors his lessons to each student’s needs. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced musician preparing for an upcoming gig, Mike will design a personalized lesson plan to help you reach your goals.

While Mike emphasizes the value of learning full songs and playing along with your favourites, he is also a formally trained musician who can teach theory, ear training, improvisation, notation/chart reading, and all the core fundamentals to build confidence in your playing. From strumming a few campfire chords to advancing your skills to the next level, Mike is committed to guiding you toward success on your musical journey.

Kirk Dobrowolski

Kirk has been teaching drums in Okotoks for over 15 years. He's also a session musician that performs and records regularly. Kirk has studied music theory and has an Honours BA degree from the University of Calgary. Throughout his career, Kirk has studied with some of Alberta's premier educators including John De Waal, Tyler Hornby, Garry De Boeck, Dennis Davies, Sandro Dominelli and Darren Kopas. Kirk teaches all styles of music to all levels of learners from beginners to advanced. He is a passionate and energetic drum instructor who empowers his students and makes drumming fun.

Dave Grunleitner

David Grunleitner is a versatile musician who has performed across the Calgary area and has even been heard on local radio stations. He began playing guitar at the age of eleven and started lessons with Mike Sands when he was twelve. Since then, David has gone on to teach himself a wide range of instruments—so many that he lost count after fluently playing thirty-two.

As a professional singer-songwriter, he has performed at numerous venues and festivals, including the Calgary Stampede, Ranchman’s, and Decimate Metal Festival, among others, showcasing his talent across multiple genres. Always bringing high energy and passion to the stage, David cannot wait to rock with you—and he certainly cannot wait to see how you roll!
